The Return to Consistency
A return to consistency.
For years, whenever my husband and I were back in Florida and headed out by boat, there was one place we always returned to. Sea Critters was our place. Not because it was trendy or new, but because it was dependable.
The staff knew our boat. They knew where we would dock. And if someone spotted us pulling in, they would quietly begin making our drinks. A house margarita, adjusted slightly. An orange wedge instead of a lime. A floater of Grand Marnier.
By the time we stepped up to the outdoor bar, our drinks were already waiting.
It never changed.
After hours in the hot sun, docking in front of a crowd, that moment carried more weight than it might seem. Not because we were noticed, but because we were remembered. Remembered for the details that their staff had taken the time to learn about us and carry forward.
During those years, we were living full-time in the Midwest. Long winters. Dark months. A cold that lingered. When we returned to Florida, we relied on places like Sea Critters to refill an emotional account we had been drawing from for a long time.
That’s what consistency does. It gives people something to count on.
It wasn’t just the place. It was the people. Ian, their lead bartender at the time, made a point of remembering what we drank and how we liked it. He shared that knowledge with others so the experience held, even when he wasn’t behind the bar.
Years later, Ian became a top-selling real estate agent.
That didn’t surprise me.
Consistency travels with you. People who remember details, follow through, and show up the same way over time build trust wherever they go.
In hospitality and in life, reliability is often the reason people stay loyal.
What’s your version of that margarita waiting at the bar? I would love to hear from you directly. Send me a message on LinkedIn or email: michelle@suncookery.com.
